Lying equidistant between Kingussie and Aviemore on the shore of Loch Insh, the village of Kincraig can claim to be one of the best-kept secrets of the Cairngorms National Park. It was originally known as Boat of Insh (after the ferry that used to cross the mighty river Spey at the northern end of the Loch). At Alvie Estate you can get involved in Clay Pigeon Shooting, Archery, and Quad Biking; or for the more relaxed, a spot of fly fishing. Alvie Stables also offer superb horse riding through miles of magnificent Cairngorms. Water-sports such as windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing and sailing are all available on Loch Insh. The Highland Wildlife Park has many species native to Scotland as well as endangered species from around the world. Or you could take in the 45-minute working sheepdog demonstration.

Wind down after a long day with a drink at the Quarterdeck bar and a meal at the Boathouse Restaurant on the Loch shore, voted the eatery with one of the five best views in Europe in 2008. Within a short drive of Kincraig, there are numerous courses; all offering different challenges and all surrounded by magnificent scenery. The two closest are at Newtonmore and at Kingussie - two very different courses, each very enjoyable and amply rewarding in its own way.

Kincraig village fair on the last Saturday in June and the evening dance in the marquee is a great day out. Keep an eye out for the fireworks night in November and a winter fun day in December. After Christmas, why not take in the traditional Burns Night celebrations at the community hall followed by the husky run at Glenmore. By then of course the ski season on the CairnGorm  will be well under way.

The Kincraig Village Stores and Post office stock a full range of convenience products. A welcome pack can be delivered to your holiday accommodation prior to your arrival, via their on-line ordering service. Speyside Horn Shop is a small family-run centre for traditional horn craft located a little north in Alvie.
